Happy Thursday!
This week’s Decaf is brought to you by our friends at David C Cook, who are bringing the life-changing gift of The Action Bible to kids living in challenging places around the world.
Today’s story was taken from The Pour Over’s November 6th email and re-written at a 7th-grade reading level.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Prayer is the place of refuge for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, a protection against sadness.”
St. John Chrysostom

ELECTION
Election Results
The polls closed on the 2024 election Tuesday night.
The Presidential Results
By Wednesday morning, the tallies showed that Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the race for the White House.
The winning candidate needed at least 270 votes in the Electoral College, and Mr. Trump locked those in by winning key swing states. (Learn more about the Electoral College here.) Mr. Trump is also projected to win the popular vote, meaning the majority of Americans voted for him.
In his victory speech early Wednesday morning, Mr. Trump called the election "the greatest political movement of all time.” He promised to “fix everything” and lead "the golden age of America." In her speech Wednesday, Ms. Harris said, “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”
States will finish the official tallies this week. Congress will make the results official on January 6th. Then, on January 20th, the 45th president will become the 47th president.
The Senate and House Results
Voters also bubbled in their ballots for 34 Senators and all 435 Representatives in the House.
Republicans won the majority in the Senate. We won't know who has the majority in the House until more votes are counted. Keep up with the vote tallies here.

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Believers’ hope is never based on the outcome of an election. It’s much more secure than that. Regardless of whether things get worse or better during your lifetime, everything eventually ends well for followers of Christ.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
Colossians 3:2-4 (CSB) (read full passage)

How can I model putting my hope and trust in Christ when discussing this story?
It’s understandable that this week’s results would get to us, whether we feel jubilant or disappointed.
As America changes course, remember that our home country—heaven—is on the same course as ever. Just as many Americans view the outcomes of foreign elections with a certain level of detachment, Christians can view earthly political outcomes as secondary to the campaign of our eternal home. Heaven is where we hold our truest citizenship (Philippians 3:20).
Earthly political outcomes may majorly affect our daily lives, but on the timeline of eternity… it’s just a blip. Model steadfastness for your children, not allowing political sea changes to consume your thoughts or direct your emotions. Focus on your main mission as an “ambassador for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:16-20).
How can I model loving an enemy when discussing this story?
Elections stir up fear, anxiety, and anger in our communities.
As you discuss the election outcome with your friends, family, and neighbors, you have an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love by showing humility, understanding, and compassion.
Discussing controversial issues can lead to strained relationships and hurt feelings. But “let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person” (Colossians 4:6 CSB).

Discuss your thoughts and feelings about Tuesday’s results as a family. Listen carefully to understand each other, then build each other up by remembering God’s character and promises.
Memorize 2 Corinthians 5:20: “We are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us.” (CSB)
Pray for those who wanted a different election outcome, that they would have hope and comfort. And pray that our nation’s current and future leaders will lead with wisdom, righteousness, and justice.
